Our verdict
It's the priciest and newest of the three, and that's the right way to think about it: Thunderbolt 5 is only just reaching laptops (you need a compatible machine to benefit; it still works on Thunderbolt 4, just without the bandwidth gain). If you already have, or are buying, a TB5 laptop and want the strongest connection for video and file transfer, this is the most advanced of the three. If not, the CalDigit TS4 covers the same ground for less money.

Does it work if my laptop only has Thunderbolt 4?
Yes, it's backward-compatible with Thunderbolt 4 and USB4, but you won't get the extra 80 Gbps bandwidth: it'll perform like a regular Thunderbolt 4 dock. TB5's advantage only shows up with a TB5 laptop.
Is it worth it over the CalDigit TS4?
Only if you already have a Thunderbolt 5 laptop and need the extra bandwidth or triple 144Hz monitors. For everyone else, the TS4 offers more total ports for almost €150 less.
